Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) Microbial Control

Retro Biotech Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) Microbial Control (UTI-MC) is a mixture of 6 heat-inactivated organisms (two gram-positive bacteria, two gram-negative bacteria, and two fungi) known to cause UTI. UTI-MC was prepared with organisms isolated from human urine and contains intact organisms that should be processed the same as human urine specimens. UTI-MC is suitable for evaluating DNA extraction methods and molecular diagnostic assays. The extraction control pool contains the easy-to-lyse gram-negative bacteria and fungi with rigid cell walls. Therefore, UTI-MC is suitable for investigating and eliminating nucleic acid extraction bias influencing diagnostic outcomes. Additionally, UTI-MC is ideal for developing and validating molecular diagnostics tools for UTIs.

  • Inactivated (heat-killed) whole organism pool.

  • Microbiologically characterized organisms.

  • Identity is confirmed by 16S/18S sequencing.

  • NGS verified composition.

  • qPCR and NGS validated Microbial composition.

  • Normalized (105 genomic copies/ML) composition.

  • Retrobiotech UTI-MC is suitable for evaluating qPCR and NGS assay performance for uropathogenic detection.

  • Validation of clinical UTI assays and training laboratory personnel.

  • Routine process control for NGS or qPCR based UTI testing

  • Organisms were heat-killed to inactivate them before pooling. The inactivation was confirmed in a standard microbiological growth protocol.
  • UTI-MC contains inactivated microorganisms and is not biohazardous. However, standard precautions should be followed when handling UTI-MC to prevent cross-contamination.
  • For handling and disposal, consult the CDC recommendations and local regulations.
  • The matrix used in this product was manufactured from artificial urine tested by qPCR and NGS and found to contain no microorganisms
  • Do not use past labeled expiration date.
  • To avoid cross-contamination, use sterile tips.
